People cried out from the town's burning buildings. Thick, black smoke billowed from the shattered windows and flooded the cobblestone streets and the air above.
In the shadows of the smoke-filled streets, a little man stood staring at the houses. He wore a torn brown jacket and dirty check trousers. He used his black umbrella to push scorched wood and bricks out of his way. With his other hand, he held his beige hat as gusts of hot wind blew smoke into his face.
His features were barely visible: mysterious grey eyes, a fine lined face and thinning dark brown hair. He brushed it from his face in irritation; he'd have to remember to cut it one of these days.
From a nearby building, somebody screamed. The whole lower floors were consumed in a roaring blaze. "Help! Somebody help me!"
The little man was about to shout back some message of reassurance, when he suddenly realized he couldn't speak, no matter how hard he tried.
For a few seconds, the smoke cleared enough so that the faint figure of a young woman could be seen behind the shattered window on the top floor. She spotted the little man. "Help me, Professor!" she screamed.
He wanted to run to the window, but he found he couldn't move. He couldn't even shout to reassure Ace, his companion behind the window, for he remained mute.
There came a loud, whirring noise from above the smoke-filled streets. The man looked up to see a circular, luminescent vessel with radiant red lights lancing from its base. It scanned the chaos below. One of the red lights illuminated the man, and the burning building with Ace within.
Ace looked frantically behind her. The flames had almost caught up with her. Looking up, she caught sight of the warship. "Doctor, please!" The Doctor didn't move. Seeing this, Ace jumped from the window, four floors from the ground.
The ship fired a barrage of lasers.
The Doctor caught a brief glimpse of Ace jumping from the building, before it was completely destroyed in a massive explosion.
